Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

LSA's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is ongoing and multi-faceted. It is infused across the Society. It evolves and improves as a result of member engagement, feedback, and a growing understanding of what it means to build a truly inclusive organization committed to the scientific study of language.

As a reflection of its commitment, LSA has passed a variety of statements related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Statement on Race
Statement Against Linguistic Misgendering and Guidelines for Avoiding Misgendering in Professional Communications
Statement on Legislating Pronouns

In addition, LSA has a range of committees and groups whose purpose, broadly defined, is to engage in the active creation of an inclusive Society.

CELP - Committee on Endangered Languages and Their Preservation
COGEL - Committee on Gender Equity in Linguistics
