Stanley Insler

It is with regret that the LSA notes the death of long-time LSA member Stanley Insler at the age of 82. Insler was Salisbury Professor of Sanskrit and Comparative Philology, Emeritus at Yale University, the same university from which he received his PhD in 1963. He was a historical linguist, serving as chair and director of graduate studies in the department of linguistics at Yale. He is known for his translation of sacred Zoroastrian text, the Gathas, and he is remembered for his kindness, his generosity and his sense of humor. Read more...
