A Queer Kind of Resilience: Perspectives from LGBTQ+ Linguists
Tuesday, October 27, 2026, 4:00-5:00 PM ET
Panelists:
Catherine Anderson, Alexei Bastishchev, Martino Mangano, Joshua Raclaw, Jack Rechsteiner, Jae Weller
This webinar aims to open a dialogue regarding the experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals pursuing educations and careers across linguistics. Bringing together a panel of linguists at different career levels and from a diverse range of backgrounds, the discussion will focus on issues such as: navigating job and other application processes during a time of heightened anti-trans and anti-queer legislation; being visibly out in our research, our teaching, and our institutional communities; finding and facilitating support networks both locally and through professional organizations; and centering queer and trans issues in our work. Panelists will not only share their experiences with these issues, but also discuss practical advice for navigating these and other issues faced by many LGBTQ+ members of our field.
