About the webinar
Following the success of the first Idea Swap for Linguistics Teachers, welcome to the second Idea Swap webinar, facilitated by Professor Lynn Santelmann (Portland State University) and Dr. Katharina von Elbwart (Universität Paderborn). Join your peers and immerse yourself in the best ideas from fellow teacher-scholars, hearing what's working and learning the lessons!
This is not your typical webinar. It's an exchange! When registering, please be prepared to submit a short paragraph on a specific teaching method, engagement activity or discussion prompt that you feel has worked well to advance student learning in your linguistics classroom. This can be an active learning assignment, an alternative grading method, a creative use of A.I., a way of teaching a specific concept in linguistics, or something else that is working well for you.
Even if you are a student or are new to teaching, you have spent considerable time in the linguistics classroom and are encouraged to share something you found particularly engaging from the student's perspective. Everyone has something to contribute and something to learn.
In this hour-long webinar, we will use breakout rooms with facilitators to discuss the ideas each has submitted and ask questions. Breakout rooms will be organized thematically.
At the end, the ideas will be compiled, grouped thematically, and shared with all webinar participants so that you can start the new academic year with a brand new set of go-to linguistics teaching ideas. This is one webinar you won't want to miss!
