Friday, February 6, 2025 | 6-7:30p ET
This session will provide a historical overview of publishing practices surrounding Black language and culture, highlighting both barriers and breakthroughs. Participants will engage with the legacies of Black scholars in publishing and reflect on how these histories inform JBLAC's present mission.
By the end of the webinar, participants will:
- Gain a deeper understanding of the history of Black language and culture in academic publishing.
- Recognize systemic challenges that have shaped the field.
- Connect historical publishing legacies to JBLAC's goals of equity and representation.
Overall, in addition to learning about the history of publishing, participants will also have the opportunity to reflect on how they can actively resist and mitigate these legacies.
