The LSA has learned with regret of the May 30, 2017 death of James W Ney, a Life Member of the LSA who first joined in 1962.

Dr. James W. Ney, 84, of Scottsdale, AZ, passed away peacefully May 30, 2017. Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marie, and their three children, daughter Dr. Cheryl Ney (Michael Dray), and sons James and Peter (Laurel Hill), two grandchildren, brothers, Phillip, Hugh, and George and sisters Suzanne Southwell and Sally Giblak. He was preceded in death by his parents Reginald and Elizabeth Ney and brother David. Jim was born in Kenya, Africa, on July 28,1932 where he lived until age 7. His family moved to Nanaimo, BC, Canada, where he grew up in the outdoors, sailing, fishing, and hiking, passions that stayed with him for life. He was a long-time member of the Arizona Yacht Club. He and Marie married in 1954 and moved to the U.S. shortly after. Jim earned an M.A. in Theology from Wheaton College and the Ed.D. in English Language and Literature from the University of Michigan. He had a long and productive faculty career, retiring from the English Department at Arizona State university as Professor Emeritus. He was internationally known in the field of TESOL (Teaching English as a Second Language). His teaching and research took him and the family around the world. He lived a wonderful life with Marie whose love he deeply cherished. His sharp wit, intellect and passion for adventure will be truly missed by all the lives he touched.
