Q1: What is a PDF file?
PDF is a universal electronic file format and is device- and resolution-independent. PDF files look exactly like original documents and preserve the fonts, images, graphics, and layout of any source file - regardless of the application and platform used to create it - and are considered to be highly secure and reliable.

PDF files can be created from nearly any standard file format, including:
DOC TXT RTF PPT JPG GIF

Q2: How do I create a PDF file?
When you install PDF creation software, a 'PDF printer' will appear in the drop-down list of printers in the print dialog box (What's this?) Generally, when you are using an application (such as Microsoft Word), you create a PDF by using the 'File'Print' command. When you select this printer and tell the program to print, instead of sending the document to a physical printer, it will be saved as a PDF file.

Q3: I don't want to create a PDF file. Is there any other way to submit an abstract to LSA?
No. At this time, LSA can only accept abstracts in a PDF format submitted via the web. The site software will reject any file that is not in PDF format.

Q4: I have Adobe Reader. Can I use that to create a PDF file?
No. Adobe Reader is a freeware program which enables a computer to view PDF files, but cannot create them. Our suggested resources section includes a list of freeware programs which can be used to create a PDF directly from Microsoft Word and from other programs and/or software applications.

Q5: I have Adobe Acrobat. Can I create a PDF using this program?
Yes. See our suggested resources page for help creating a PDF using this program.

Q6: How do I upload my abstract after I create a PDF file?
You can use the LSA Abstract Submission form to enter the author, title, and other information and upload your abstract.
