Welcome to the
Student Resources Area
This area of the site offers information about resources of particular interest to student members.
The LSA sponsors a Summer Meeting, featuring many events of particular interest to graduate students. The LSA Summer Meeting is held biennially in even-numbered years; the next one is 2008 at the Ohio State University.
The Bloch Fellow serves as the student representative to the LSA Executive Committee. Bloch Fellows are selected by the Committee on Linguistic Institutes and Fellowships, based on students' fellowship applications for the LSA Summer Institute. The current Bloch Fellow is Michael Frank (MIT). Students are encouraged to contact the student representative with ideas about how to improve the LSA and any other questions and concerns to be voiced to the Executive Committee.
Students are also encouraged to get involved with the LSA by serving on one of many LSA committees. Students may be nominated, by themselves or others, to be members on any of the following committees:
Student Issues and Concerns (COSIAC)
Membership Services and Information Technology (COMSIT)
Endangered Languages and Their Preservation
Ethnic Diversity in Linguistics
Language in the School Curriculum
Social and Political Concerns
The Status of Women in Linguistics (COSWL)
Technology Advisory
In recent years, student members have been appointed to serve on the following LSA Committees:
Ethnic Diversity in Linguistics (Lauren Hall-Lew)
Executive (Rebecca T. Cover, Kristen Syrett)
Membership Services and Information Technology (Rebecca T. Cover, Kristen Syrett)
Social and Political Concerns (Vera Gribanov)
The Status of Women in Linguistics (Jennifer Nguyen)
Technology Advisory (Marjorie Pak, Eric Raimy)
If you are interested in nominating yourself to serve on one of these committees, contact David Robinson, Director of Membership and Meetings. Please include the name(s) of the committee(s) for which you would like to be nominated as well as a brief statement indicating for each committee your background, interest, and qualifications. This nonprofit site aims to help academically trained linguists find private sector employment. While the site is no longer regularly maintained and we cannot guarantee the timeliness of the job listings and contact links, it does offer down-to-earth advice, how-to information, and an opportunity to discuss prospects and problems with others who have found work or are seeking it.
