Registration
Everyone attending the meeting is expected to register. Compliance is important for keeping our fees affordable. Only those who register will be allowed to present papers, use the Job Placement Service, or attend plenary presentations.
Individuals may register in advance by sending a copy of the registration form with a check by 5 December 2005. Registrations with credit card payment may be faxed to: (202) 835-1717. The Secretariat strongly urges you to register by 5 December but will, in any case, stop accepting registrations on 16 December. This step has been necessitated by the enormous flow of registrations received the last few days before the meeting. The fees are:
• Members of LSA and the societies meeting with the LSA (ADS, ANS,
NAAHoLS, SPCL, and SSILA):
Regular Members: $100.00
Emeritus Members: $75.00
Student Members: $40.00
Unemployed Members: $40.00
• All Others:
Regular: $125.00
Emeritus: $85.00
Students: $50.00
Unemployed: $50.00
All registrations received after 16 December will be returned following the meeting, and individuals will have to register at the meeting. Registrants may claim their badges and handbooks at the registration area in the Hyatt Regency Albuquerque beginning at 10:00 AM on 5 January.
Requests for refunds of registration fees cannot be honored. Registrants who are unable to attend the meeting will, however, be sent an Annual Meeting Handbook in late January.
On-Site Registration
Registration will open at 10:00 AM on 5 January in front of the Sendero Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency Albuquerque and will be open all day 6 and 7 January. The on-site registration fees, regardless of membership, are:
Regular: $125.00
Emeritus Members: $85.00
Students: $50.00
Unemployed Members: $50.00
1-day registration: $65.00
Note: Fees may be paid with cash, check, or traveller's cheque. Credit card payments will NOT be accepted for on-site registration under any circumstances.
Child Care
As in the past, LSA members who notify the Secretariat that they plan to bring children to the meeting will receive a list of sitters recommended by the hotel and convention bureau as well as the names and addresses of the other members who expect to bring their children to Albuquerque. In addition, at the recommendation of the Officers and Executive Committee, the Child Care Assistance Fund will provide a maximum $100.00 stipend to offset child care costs. Parents must meet the following requirements: (1) They are presenters on the LSA program. (2) The caregiver they secure is a graduate student or unemployed linguist. [This person will also receive a complimentary Annual Meeting registration.] (3) The caregiver has agreed to provide child care for no more than two children for 8-12 hours. (4) The parents notify the Secretariat no later than 15 November 2005.
Job Placement Service
The Job Placement Service Office will be in the Santo Domingo Room located in the Convention Center. On 6 and 7 January, the office will be open 8:30 AM – 6:00 PM. It will also be open 9:00 – 11:00 AM on 8 January. Lists of openings will be available, and the staff will facilitate interviews between applicants and employers.
The cost for using the Job Placement Service to advertise jobs, collect CVs, and/ or to interview candidates is $125. See the instructions for registering with the Job Placement Service and remitting the fee.
Listing a Job
The Secretariat will prepare a Job Openings List to be distributed through
the Job Placement Service Office. Jobs that are to be included in the list
should be emailed to: MNiebuhr
lsadc.org no later than 9 December 2005.
Announcements for last minute job openings will be posted on bulletin boards
in the Job Placement Service Office. A representative of the institution
should bring at least three copies of the announcements to the office and
be prepared to pay $125.
Interviewing
Interviewers are asked to check in with the Job Placement Service staff so that an interview schedule can be arranged. Applicants should bring an adequate supply of their CV’s—enough to submit one copy to each interviewer. The Job Placement Service Office will have no duplication facilities.
Interviewers and applicants may find the summary of Job Placement Service procedures useful as well as the “LSA Guidelines for Interviewing”.
As in the past, interviewers and candidates are required to register for the meeting.
Publishers’ Exhibit
The exhibit of linguistics publications will be in the Enchantment Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Staff will take orders for publications during the exhibit hours. All orders must be prepaid. The exhibit will be open the following hours:

2:00 PM - 5:30 PM
Sunday, 8 January 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM
The display copies in the LSA Joint Book Exhibit will be sold beginning at 8:30 AM on 8 January. These display copies have been generously donated by the publishers exhibiting in the LSA Joint Book Exhibit, and the proceeds will be donated to fellowships for the Linguistic Institute. Advance orders for display copies, at a discount of 5% greater than that given by the publisher, will be taken prior to 8 January if accompanied by payment. All books must be picked up on 8 January between 8:30 AM and 10:00 AM. Unclaimed books will be resold and the advance payment donated to the Linguistic Institute fellowships.
Using the LSA Joint Book Exhibit
The LSA offers publishers who wish to promote only a few titles the option of participating in the LSA Joint Book Exhibit booth. For $150.00, publishers may display up to three titles; for $300.00, they may display up to eight titles. The Joint Book Exhibit Reservation Form should be returned to the LSA no later than 15 November 2005. Titles, prices, and discounts will be printed in the Joint Book Exhibit List. Orders received at the meeting will be forwarded to the publisher shortly after the meeting.
Sign Interpreting Policy
LSA members who plan to attend the Albuquerque meeting and need sign interpreting
service must notify the LSA Secretariat AND register
for the meeting by 15 November 2005. All requests should be sent to: MReynolds
lsadc.org.
Please include a list of LSA sessions and/or papers you expect to attend
