LSA Fellows

Members of the Society who have made distinguished contributions to the discipline may be recognized as Fellows of the Linguistic Society of America. A member of the Society who has served as an Officer of the Society (i.e., President, Secretary-Treasurer, or Editor of Language) shall be recognized as a Fellow upon conclusion of service in that office. The initial set of Fellows shall include all current members of the Society who have held any of these offices.

Nominations

Any regular member of the Society shall be eligible for election as a Fellow. Nominations may be made by any regular member in good standing and should be forwarded to the LSA Secretariat by 30 July 2010. If sent by postal mail, the nomination should be accompanied by a letter of nomination no more than two pages in length and the curriculum vitae of the nominee, limited to four pages; e-mailed nominations should be accompanied by the same information, and may be sent to David Robinson, Director of Membership and Meetings, at drobinson@lsadc.org, with the words "LSA Fellow Nomination" in the subject line. The Secretariat will confirm that the nominee is a member in good standing before preparing the ballot.

The at-large members of the Executive Committee will be charged to elect in secret ballot those to be recognized as Fellows. After electing the initial set of Fellows, no more than 10 members will be elected as Fellows each year (not including retired Officers). Further no more than 5% of the total eligible members shall be recognized as Fellows at any time. If Fellows are more than 5% of the total personal membership, no new Fellows will be elected that year.

No member of the Executive Committee will be eligible for election as a Fellow while serving in that office. Members who are Fellows may be nominated to serve as Officers or on the Executive Committee.

Fellows will be listed on the website and noted as such in the Membership Directory.
