Dictionary Society of North America
The Dictionary Society is again offering the Laurence Urdang DSNA Award for the support of lexicographic research. Funded by member Laurence Urdang, the award will support one or more lexicographic projects with awards between $500 and $2,500. Applicants must be current members of the DSNA. The budget may include costs of travel, tuition, materials, subsistence, and related expenses. The proposal should include: (1) project name; (2) applicant's name and address; (3) statement of the immediate goals and expected long-range results of the project; (4) description of the methodology or procedures to be used; (5) summary budget of total expenses for the project; (6) other sources of support available for the project; and (7); a one-page biographical resume of the applicant. It should total no more than three pages single-spaced, including the one-page resume. Send proposals with a self-addressed, stamped postcard for acknowledgement to: Richard W. Bailey, Dept. Awards will be made and full payments sent early in 2002.
Dissertation Fellowships
In 2002, dissertation fellowships for archival research in the humanities will become available from the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) with funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The program will be called the Mellon Fellowship Program for Dissertation Research in Original Sources. The fellowships will provide encouragement and opportunities for graduate students in any field in the humanities to do dissertation research in original source materials. Archives, libraries, and other repositories of research materials will be asked to work with CLIR to provide special assistance to dissertation fellows who choose to use their collections. Fellowships will be granted for periods of one year; some may be awarded for research abroad. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowships
The Penn Humanities Forum of the University of Pennsylvania invites scholars to submit research proposals related to the umbrella topic of 'The Book'. An interdisciplinary center promoting collaborative scholarship in the humanities, the forum is interested in proposals from a variety of theoretical perspectives. Fellows will teach one course per term during academic year 2002-2003. The stipend is $34,000. The application deadline is 15 October 2001.
