Johns Hopkins University. The Department of Cognitive Science is inviting applications for an untenured, tenure-track position in psycholinguistics. Appointment will be either at the assistant or associate professor level. The search will continue until the position is filled. Applicants must have a demonstrated record of achievements in experimental work on language bearing on theoretical issues in either phonology, morphology, or syntax. Teaching experience at both undergraduate and graduate levels is desirable. Besides theoretical linguistics and cognitive psychology, expertise in other areas of cognitive science is a further asset, especially in neuropsychology, neuroscience, or computer science. Macalester College. The Linguistics program is seeking a sociolinguist who can also teach field methods for a one-semester sessional appointment February - May 2002. The third course will be determined in part by the interests of the successful candidate. Salary, although scandalously low, is competitive for appointments of this type, and we will do our best to get the maximum possible commitment from a pragmatic and unsentimental administration. Bearing in mind that Macalester College is a liberal arts undergraduate institution, a flair for teaching ia a must. National University of Singapore. NUS invites applications for faculty positions in Chinese language and linguistics in the Department of Chinese Studies. Chinese Language and Chinese Studies are two major modules offered by the department. In academic year 2000-2001, nearly 400 undergraduates read modules in Chinese Language. We seek specialists in Classical and/or Modern Chinese with a strong commitment to both teaching and research. Applicants must possess a doctorate degree upon appointment. Successful candidates will be appointed as assistant professors or equivalent grades. They are expected to teach courses, conduct research, and supervise MA/PhD students. They will teach undergraduate and graduate students, who have had about 12 years of formal Chinese learning in school, Chinese language and linguistics. A postdoctoral position in variationist sociolinguistics is available to participate in ongoing projects on synchronic and diachronic variation in English and French, as well as on bilingualism and language contact in a variety of language pairs.
