The 2005 Institute will offer courses in many areas of theoretical, experimental, and historical linguistics, including acquisition, computational linguistics, dialectology, language change, morphology, neurolinguistics, phonetics, phonology, pragmatics, psycholinguistics, semantics, and syntax.
In keeping with the theme of the Institute, there will be a number of co-taught 'dialogue' classes, which focus on specific issues about which the instructors have divergent views. In addition, numerous other co-taught classes have been designed to synthesize the complementary contributions of the instructors.
The Institute will also offer classes with a specific language or language-family
orientation, including courses on African American English, Algonquian,
American Sign Language, Anatolian, Austronesian, Chinese, Gbe, Indo-European,
Irish, Japanese, and Salish.

Affiliate Registration
Affiliate status is granted to faculty, researchers, and others who wish to participate in the Institute but not as a student. Affiliates may audit courses and take part in Institute activities. The fees for the 2005 Institute are $1,375 (six weeks) and $950 (three weeks or less). A principal source of student fellowship funds, this fee also covers all administrative costs including I.D. cards, access to libraries, and receptions.

Participant Registration
All students who wish to attend the Institute must complete a participant
registration form. Those who have applied for or have been awarded LSA fellowships
must also complete this form. The registration form can be found in the
LSA brochure and on the LSA website: http://web.mit.edu/lsa2005/.
Registration forms along with a $50 application fee must be received by
1 April 2005 ($100 application fee after this date).
Participant Tuition and Fees
Tuition is $2000 for six weeks and $1250 for three weeks. Participants who are registered for six weeks may take up to eight LSA credits and those for three weeks may take up to four LSA credits. Additional credits are $200 per credit. The fees cover all administrative costs including I.D. cards, access to libraries, and receptions. Class materials are not included in the tuition fee.
Participant Fellowships
Fellowships are available on a competitive basis to those who have not
completed their professional training. To be eligible for fellowships, participants
must be LSA members and must register for six weeks for at least eight credits.
Applicants in currency-restricted countries who are unable to remit dues
should contact the LSA Secretariat (lsa

Special Services
Arrangements for sign language interpreters, sighted readers, or other special services will be made by the LSA Institute. Notification of need for these services must be made on the affiliate or participant registration form and must be received by 1 April 2005.
